There is a post going around (again) that tells your friends to hover over your name, etc, and click off the "Likes and Comment" choice so that your posts are not made public. Well, that request is inaccurate; that check only pertains to what information from your friend's page will post to your feed.
There are however, other things to think about if privacy and security on facebook and other social networks is a concern for you. Here's an infographic that is pretty at the top, and has sobering details about your information at the bottom. I've hounded friends and family to stop putting your real birthday (at least leave off the year) on social networks and (please, please) stop using your birth date in your email address. It's one of the easiest pieces of information to use as a gateway to the rest of your identity. -Amy
